About Model Millennials
“When I was a young man, I wanted to change the world.
I found it was difficult to change the world, so I tried to change my nation.
When I found I couldn’t change the nation, I began to focus on my town.
I couldn’t change the town and as an older man, I tried to change my family.
Now, as an old man, I realize the only thing I can change is myself,
and suddenly I realize that if long ago I had changed myself,
I could have made an impact on my family.
My family and I could have made an impact on our town.
Their impact could have changed the nation and
I could indeed have changed the world.”

My name is Joel Xu, the founder of Model Millennials. Such a pleasure to e-meet you :)
Millennials have previously been called entitled, lazy, wantrepreneurs, slacktivists, the peter pan generation… and countless other wacky names. But I believe millennials aren’t predestined to be labeled as such forever!
That’s why our mission is to empower growth minded millennials to become stand up role models in their own communities activating the butterfly effect. I believe if we as millennials change our own world for the better, we can begin the change the world!
What do we do exactly? Model Millennials is a millennial lifestyle content ecosystem! In plain English, it means that we’ll deliver you different content styles such as blogs, podcasts, workbooks and more, all with the goal to empower you to be the optimal version of yourself.
Think of this as the home base for your growth journey to reaching your life’s potential.
Growing up, I was always the turtle, and never the hare.
I never achieved the high grades my Asian parents would’ve liked to see. I felt socially inept in my high school years. And in my starting years of university, I left school for a startup in search for a better route to entrepreneurship, causing friends and family to seriously question my life decisions.
But in that time, I also went through an arduous process of growth. I was fortunate enough to have a few mentors in my life that encouraged me to be militant and intentional about my process of self discovery.
I would read countless books to elevate my life skills
I went through a self-discovery progression by taking tests such as the strength finders, the Myer’s Brigg, and the 4 temperaments
I would listen to podcasts and audios cementing my philosophy of being a life long learner
I attended transformational conferences to help me reflect on my life’s mission and purpose
Through this life-altering process of growth…
I went from a socially incompetent high school kid going through puberty to making friends from all walks of life and expanding my network to some really awesome people.
I went from a “drop out” where my friends and family criticized my decisions to making over 6 figures by the age of 22. And eventually coaching high producers in a sales environment, all as the introvert I am. Side note, a healthy income can quiet the noise real fast from friends and family.
I went from getting C’s in school to graduating top of the class of my digital marketing bootcamp cohort and running a digital marketing business.
I say this not to humble brag, but to show you that if an awkward turtle like me can turn my life around, I have no doubt in my mind that you can too.
I believe one of the key ingredients to elevating your life is being sooper dooper intentional about your growth. And I hope I can be one more kindle to your fire to help you on your growth journey.
If you want to change the world, you must first change your world.
Our mission is to help millennials create their own best world, and in turn, create a better world.
